How to plan your social media strategy

Social media is vital for the success of brands today, whether that’s on LinkedIn for B2B brands or TikTok for B2C. When it comes to fostering connections with customers or showcasing products and services, social media can be a highly effective owned channel but without a strategy, it can only be so successful. 


Why have a strategy?

With a strategy, a social media campaign can achieve consistency rather than some posts performing well and others not as well. A strategy can help content posted from a social channel to align with overall goals instead of content appearing to be sporadic. Over time consistency helps audiences resonate with a brand, building loyal customer bases.


Social media can be a real contributor to business success, helping with sales and lead generation by achieving cut-through in crowded marketplaces. Not maximising the impact of social media and other communication channels can therefore have an impact on the bottom line, setting yourself up for success starts with a strategy.


Crafting a successful strategy 

Crucial to a successful strategy is knowing the audience and that starts with identifying them using key demographics but also dialling into what they want to get out of their social media journeys. Think about potential customers and how you can help them solve their challenges, weaving that into social media can allow content to resonate amongst a sea of other content from competitors. 


Tailoring content is crucially important for each platform, so the same post won’t often perform the same on LinkedIn or X (Twitter). On LinkedIn, audiences expect a more professional tone but on TikTok, a more personal and even humorous tone can work successfully. Due to this, it’s important to focus a strategy on the platforms that will make the most difference to a brand, rather than focusing on all platforms to the detriment of overall success.
